Open and Independent Web

  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Federated Diversity Foundation – An online magazine and collective where Social Coding meets the Fediverse, helping empower Free Software Development and take the Fediverse to new heights.

  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Fediverse Developer Network – A community for developers focused on building and enhancing projects within the Fediverse. It provides a shared repository of insights, best practices, and resources to support development and interoperability using Fediverse core protocols.

  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 IndieWeb – A community of independent and personal websites connected by open standards, emphasizing owning your domain and using it as your primary online identity, publishing on your own site first, and owning your content.

  • 📜 Manifesto for a Humane Web – The web is increasingly hostile to humans due to privacy violations, ad-filled search results, and spam bots. Users face issues with slow-loading sites and electronic waste. This is a call is for a web by and for humans.

  • 🏛️ Small Technology Foundation – A two-person not-for-profit based in Ireland, working on building the Small Web, which they describe as Web0 rather than Web3. They create everyday tools for everyday people, prioritizing human welfare over corporate profits.

  • 📄 The Internet is a Series of Webs – An essay by Aram Zucker-Scharff that explores the concept of a decentralized internet made up of interconnected webs, promoting a vision of an open, user-centric digital ecosystem.

  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 verses – A collective of writers, researchers, and technologists co-imagining, practicing, and building a healthier cyberspace.

  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Web We Want – A project that collects feedback about the current state of the web, aiming to identify and solve problems or deficiencies in the web platform, developer tooling, or other areas. They travel to conferences and meetups globally to gather insights and help shape the future of the web.

Open Source General

  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Commune – Besides being an excellent chat software project, it is also a vibrant community of like-minded individuals who share a common vision. They have a blog with great articles too.

  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 FOSS Gaming Union – A welcoming community for both players and developers of free and open-source games.

  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Social Coding – A movement promoting participatory free software development that is inclusive to all people and focused on addressing real human needs.
