What

Looking at the .WebP images stored in the server, we don't have any EXIF data stored.

  • is it stripped during conversion ?
  • is it stripped by the mobile web browsers ?

During conversion ?

I created an issue related to the frontend to understand why (i thought EXIF was kept): fengyuanchen/compressorjs#196

Mobile web browser ?

also small fyi: I don't know if you're using the gps coordinates of the images that are uploaded, but if you do: do know that CERTAIN android phones seem to strip the gps coordinates exif data from images when uploading them through a browser, regardless of location permissions of the browser or the website. BUT this can be circumvented if you let it open a 'file picker' instead of 'an image picker'

just to clarify: only gps coordinates are stripped from exif on mobile browsers if using image uploader. all other exif data is still there (well, i don't know what happens on your backend.but i'm referring to an issue we had with Mapcomplete where gps coordinates were 000 0000 but all other exif data stayed the same after upload
