I don't know why, or when, as to what causes it. but UI bugs ax2uWide3
Might as well leave an issue here, try to see what causes some of it at some point.

examples off the top of my head:

  • loading savestate with full soul, or while gaining soul -> freezes soul counter at the value before loading the state, even if savestate has no soul
  • loading savestate at 1 hp "randomly" stores the 1hp state "hunched over knight" stance/state until quitout
