pacman -Qo pdfunite tells me it is from poppler, it is much more common, looking through required by, gtk2 for instance in-effect depends on it.
Think that would be pdfunite "$WORKINGDIR/"*".pdf" "$WORKINGDIR/$filename.pdf" instead of the pdftk command. Tried that, it does work. That said, not sure how well it does page breaks, doesnt seem to have an option to enforce page breaks.(dont know if that is necessary)
