This has nothing to do with the external monitor, click the sleep button, do not close the cover to sleep, cannot wake up the screen
don't close the lid and sleep, waking up again, the built-in display is not recognized, the lid needs to be closed and open, to re recognize the built-in display

I don't know if you have encountered this problem. It also exists in the previous version

No reason found. After resetting NVRAM, it worked normally. After a period of time, it could not recognize the built-in display

Sorry I cannot duplicate this.
Edit.
My video card is Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 1536 MB and native display is 2160x1440.

So you're using different hardware or Retina Mod. So I cannot support both.

I'm sure our hardware version is the same except I have an external monitor.
After resetting nvram, the built-in display can be recognized normally after sleep wakeup.
I don't know about this bug that can't wake up the built-in display, under what conditions will it happen.
So for now I can't tell you how to reproduce it.

I have an external monitor connected with DP and it's working fine. I also tested an HDMI connection and didn't have problems at all. Sometime I have to plug and unplug twice the external monitor to have it recognised, but only at first boot, hope it helps

First hit sleep, then wait for the power light to blink, then wake up. Now, the screen cannot be woken up.

Please try this operation. You can reproduce the issues
