Hi,
I am working on very similar project with Paperless.
Papermerge is relatively new project - I open sourced it in February 2020 and I actively develop it ever since.
Besides using similar tech spec (python, django, tesseract) I also was inspired greatly by paperless project - by its clean code and well organized documentation.
Anyway, maybe you guys can have a look and provide with feedback. I would gladly migrate Paperless's practical features to Papermerge!
Because I am dev and I am working on similar solution I can provide you help/bug fixing for this Paperless project. But what concerns me is number of pending pull requests (18 at time of writing this comment). Is this project still active ?

I was questioning myself the same question, at least the latest docker build is only a month old.
But I was already thinking of giving Mayan a try again - now I will check your project for sure.
Best would be, of course, when forces could be joined in ONE project!
I am not sure about "joining forces" part. Diversity is good. Each and every project brings something of its own on the table.
It is good thing to have different FOSS projects with same common goal. Users will have many options to chose from.
Papermerge is something between Paperless and Mayan. It has more features and it is more complex as project than paperless, but is by far simplier and easier to use than Mayan.
What I'm afraid of is that your project will mature, finally be better then paperless and then it'll be also abandoned by you and one has to change projects again....
That is why I am a bit sceptic of such 1-person-shows...nevertheless it is your effort and you shall choose the right way. But using simlar technologies and ideas, I was just hoping that it might be more helpful for everybody if you could improve paperless :)
