Scadnano imports take into account group position and orientation, but not helix position and orientation. This is important for scadnano designs that don't have a grid; in this case, it appears that the import uses a default grid and grid position for each helix.
In the attached file (extension renamed from .sc), for example, the helices are arranged in a curved fashion. c-small.txt

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't know that scadnano could be used in that way.
We haven't been pushing on the public repository for a while because we want to submit a journal paper first, but hopefully we will be able to do by the end of the year.
Once we are ready to update the public repository I will work on these issues
