this move would make the tool more versatile - but at the same time more error prone in html development.

Maybe add html linting (as parameter or as external tool).

An idea would be to do the templating always with .txt.
When the file ending is HTML though, additionally an HTML check would be run.
There should be a parameter to force the HTML check on non-.html-ending files as well.
