Run Games Better In Desktop Mode Than Steam OS?

this OS seems very compelling to me, however i am curious if it runs games in desktop mode better than it does on the stock os, and it seems to run them not very well, if its better, that would be very good to know!

Between the ability to use Wayland and System 76 scheduler you may find better desktop performance, but ideally we match SteamOS 3.5.

I heard the reason desktop mode runs games so much worse is because of something called X11? Not too familiar with Linux sorry 😅❤️ do u use that? Or will desktop mode performance be the same as game mode? ❤️

X11 and Wayland might have about the same performance to be honest. Wayland is a lot smoother in most cases and does NOT have issues like screen tearing or multiple monitors issue. It's a legacy windowing system that is used by default on both SteamOS and Bazzite due to issues with steam-input iirc without it. However you can force Wayland on the Steam Deck images by opening a terminal and entering: just _toggle_wayland
