Switch between inline and block nodes based on the content

I have created a custom extension, where I add a blank inline node. Then using

tr.setNodeMarkup(position, undefined, params);
tr.setMeta("addToHistory", false); // here stop history
editor.view.dispatch(tr);

I update inline node params. params.value can be text or array. If it is text there's no change but if it is an array I want to use a block node. Is there a way to switch node type?
