Weather widget issues

I tried to enable the Weather widget, but

• It appeared empty

• I tried to change the language, but it suggests only hierogliophic languages and no English in the cycle, so cannot restore English. The hierogliphs appeared on the widget, but nothing else. Further attempts to change language led to taskbar hung.

OK. After some itempts I've got it working, but the language is wrong. It is neither English, nor Russian (system default).

1. I didn't have time to fully test it against the classic theme. In fact, I haven't tested it at all. I will look at this aspect for the next update and attempt to fix the layout issues that you mention.
2. I don't understand the bug with the random strings. Tell me some way to reproduce it. Or you just open the window and it has some random string there? Idk, I will try to look into it. It definitely has to be fixed.

On the latest build the language and location still reset to default on cancel.

Latest update from GitHub? Try reinstalling, maybe you're still on the older version. If you have "something" in there and click "Cancel", the "something" will remain; if you delete it and click "OK", the default value for that field will be used.

Yeah, I saw that, but with a censored city name, I cannot test out. At least check it yourself in Google search in a regular browser and see whether there it looks right or not.

That could be due to many reasons like:

• Not having WebView2 Runtime on your install
• Registration of the DLL failed. Check these paths in the registry: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{A6EA9C2D-4982-4827-9204-0AC532959F6D} and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{CDBF3734-F847-4F1B-B953-A605434DC1E7}.
• Check that you have the files ep_weather_host.dll, ep_weather_host_stub.dll and WebView2Loader.dll in C:\Program Files\ExplorerPatcher.

What files do you have in C:\Program Files\ExplorerPatcher?

I will issue an update that will show more debug data in the console, maybe we figure it out that way if nothing else works by then.

I used the explorerpatcher with no issues. Today i clicked the show weather widget and now my screen is just black, not able to open anything anymore. How can i fix this? i cant use my laptop anymore.

## My desktop broke after enabling "Show Weather on the taskbar", how do I workaround this?

1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete at the same time, open Task Manager, click File -> Run new task, and "Open" `regedit.exe` with administrative permissions.
2. Go to `Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\People`
3. Double-click "PeopleBand", then change its value data to `0`.
4. Use Restart File Explorer (*); an alternative is to open Task Manager, click File -> Run new task, and "Open" `explorer.exe`.

It shouldn't brake. I am more interested in fixing the thing rather than documenting workarounds. The thing is in testing, there may still be big mistakes in the code. I have re-released pre-release 42.11 with a very important fix regarding a crash when enabling the widget (I was dereferencing a NULL pointer, obviously by mistake). Maybe that solves the issue. Anyway, although I don't really fancy it, I have also updated the wiki page with the info you provided. It will be there, at least for now.

Valinet, I have additional request for Weather widget sizing..

You've fixed sizing problems for different screen resolutions, but there is also Text size in Accessibility settings. i have Text size enlarged by 10% (years and vision problems..) and weather widget can't fit

I am not rude. While I do strive to remember everything that's mentioned around these forums, which realistically I shouldn't do, you can't expect me to remember every message that mentioned something over here.

For example, right now I know that the widget doesn't start-up when explorer.exe is restarted using the Task Manager. That would be a problem that still needs to be solved. I don't know why it happens, I have to investigate. It might possibly be related to what you are experiencing or it might not.

I cannot guess why it is not working for you without any additional data, there could be multiple reasons. When it doesn't work, the People button displays, as that's what the weather widget replaces. Seeing it directly suggests that the program fails to initialize the component. That could be due to many reasons like:

• Not having WebView2 Runtime on your install (you said Windows 11 widgets work, those use WebView2 as well, so likely not that).
• Registration of the DLL failed. Check these paths in the registry: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{A6EA9C2D-4982-4827-9204-0AC532959F6D} and HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{CDBF3734-F847-4F1B-B953-A605434DC1E7}.
• Check that you have the files ep_weather_host.dll, ep_weather_host_stub.dll and WebView2Loader.dll in C:\Program Files\ExplorerPatcher.

If that seems fine, report back here and also, if you want, I'd say, clone the source, attach with the debugger and see where it gets to when it runs.

Yeah, I will debug the issue where it doesn't start after an explorer.exe restart and maybe that fixes it for you as well.

In my country a lot of cities/towns are subdivided into more than one postal code, so if I enter the main postal code it works perfect, but the other ones are causing it to flurb:

My previous screenshot was taken directly from Edge browser at maximum zoom level. So, here's another example screenshot showing just a tiny dot in this same area, in the EP weather window:

By using DevTools in Edge to edit the style attribute, I was able to determine that the width of the <div id="wob_gsp"> is 3.96px too wide. Changing the width from 652px to only 648.04px is what fixed the issue, in Edge 98.0.1108.56, and verified correct at all zoom levels, ranging from 100% zoom level to 500% zoom level.

The widget is basically full of alignment issues if you ask me:

If you look at the precipitations graph, each day should have a granularity of 3 (3 segments per day), yet those do not exactly with the icons below. Also, in your pictures, percentages are left-aligned while in mine they are center aligned. Also, not even the segments are equal. Idk, all of these could be scaling issues. Indeed, at the end, there is part of the next segment leaking into view and altering the width as you suggested seems to fix it, or at least workaround it, let's say.
