It then can take ages (several minutes) before the missing history appears in the room. Meanwhile you can send messages without any evidence that the room is stale. Weirdly the unread message jump-to-bottom FAB pops up quite early (roughly when you'd expect to see a spinner stop and scrollback load) telling you the count of the number of messages you are missing… but tapping it does not show the missing messages, it just jumps you to the bottom of the stale content. Have seen this both for me and Amandine. The fact the app isn't reliably telling you when a room is stale (other than the warning from the unread msg button) kills confidence and makes it feel super flakey.
