Currently, the gdown package on PyPI (https://pypi.org/project/gdown/#files) does not have a wheel. It would be great to add it so that it can support JupyterLite. Otherwise, all downstream packages of gdown can't support JupyterLite. The wheel can be built using the instructions here.
