To prevent potential stagnation in the ELO rating system and maintain its responsiveness to the players' (models') performance, we need to explore improvements early on. Even though the system has not yet reached a point of stability, proactive enhancements are crucial to ensure it remains sensitive to subtle performance differences between models.

Proposed Solution:

  • Implement enhancements to the ELO rating calculation methodology to ensure that it remains responsive and accurate over time.
  • For instance, one suggestion is to fine-tune the matchmaking algorithm to increase the likelihood of pairing players (models) with similar ELO ratings.
