It seems that certain files that were removed with #295 still exist in develop branch on https://github.com/ynput/ayon-houdini

After ynput/ayon-houdini#1 merged I was able to save workfiles, load products, manage products, publish USD files with contributions so after that the main logic there seemed to work.

The ayon-houdini repo seems to work as intended!
