Translating "2D Game Development: From Zero To Hero"

Currently there is no centralized way to manage translations. Each translation team will maintain their own copy of the project and repository.

General Guidelines

"2D Game Development: From Zero To Hero" is a technical book, and translating it maybe be more difficult and time-consuming than a non-technical translation.

Here are some tips that may help you on your way:

  • Before you begin, make sure to read the entire book in its original English Version. This way you'll be aware of its content and the style that is used;
  • Make sure you have good knowledge of Git and Make, since they are the basis of the build system of the book;
  • Keep formatting and style constant through the whole book;
  • Make sure to read and understand the Pandoc Markdown Syntax, at least its basics. Not following this syntax may lead to issues with building the book, in its PDF or Epub forms.

Starting a new translation

If there is no translation of this book in your language, you can start your own.

At the moment there is no well-defined structure on how you should structure your repository, but here are some suggestions:

  • Pick a 2-letter ISO 639 Code for your language;
  • Create a new repository for the book, called 2DGD_F0TH_[your code] (for example: 2DGD_F0TH_de for German);
  • Copy the structure from the original project;
  • Start Translating!

Translations are considered derivative works, and are to be licensed under the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 License.
