Single page web application that aims to help people learning foreign languages while creating checklists.
My wife inspired me to creating that simple app.
Sometimes when she wanted to know translation for an item for her shopping checklist she had to open translation service -> type in item name -> find out translation -> type in translated item in checklist application. It might be a little bit cumbersome to do.
So we thought that would be good idea to combine translation functionality with checklist app.
As for me it was a good opportunity to start learning React, Redux and apply progressive web app philosophy.
Whole project is full javascript stack.
I am using non-sql database MongoDB. Mongoose as nodejs object modeling tool.
I use Exressjs to handle routes, utilize middlewares.
I implemented Bearer strategy using Passportjs to authenticate and authorize users. Routes are authenticated with passing jwt in header.
Translation logic is implemented on api side. I was considering using google translation service but unfortunately there was no free plans for open source projects. So I ended up utilizing Yandex.Translate. They kindly provide free access to translation api Special thanks to Andrey Sidorov for creating npm yandex-translate.
This project is bootstrapped with Create React App and Redux. Components are divided to stateless and smart.
I am trying to apply progressive web app philosophy principals.
UI components implement React Material.
Database, web api, client app - everything is hosted on heroku.
I found it to be very useful service.
I've been using free plan where I've got up to 500mb of memory.
Building and deployment of the application happens automatically on every push to target branch (in my case it is master
).
The caveat is that app falls a sleep and it takes seconds to wake it up but that is ok for my testing purposes.
I am not complaining as everything i've got is free.

In the project directory, you can run:
npm start
Runs the app in the development mode.
Open http://localhost:3000 to view it in the browser.
The page will reload if you make edits.
You will also see any lint errors in the console.
npm test
Launches the test runner in the interactive watch mode.

npm run build
Builds the app for production to the build
folder.
It correctly bundles React in production mode and optimizes the build for the best performance.
The build is minified and the filenames include the hashes.
Your app is ready to be deployed!

npm run eject
Note: this is a one-way operation. Once you eject
, you can’t go back!
If you aren’t satisfied with the build tool and configuration choices, you can eject
at any time. This command will remove the single build dependency from your project.
Instead, it will copy all the configuration files and the transitive dependencies (Webpack, Babel, ESLint, etc) right into your project so you have full control over them. All of the commands except eject
will still work, but they will point to the copied scripts so you can tweak them. At this point you’re on your own.
You don’t have to ever use eject
. The curated feature set is suitable for small and middle deployments, and you shouldn’t feel obligated to use this feature. However we understand that this tool wouldn’t be useful if you couldn’t customize it when you are ready for it.
