The Merritt Express service provides high-performance file-level download access for integration with services such as the University of California's eScholarship open-access publishing platform and content repository.

Compared to Merritt's human-facing user interface, as a machine-to-machine integration point Merritt Express uses a stripped-down architecture that bypasses the UI and Storage service to stream content directly from Amazon S3 or SDSC.
