Hello, A-4E-C pilots! We hope you are well. We'd like to highlight a few important items about this update, and salute the newest group of contributors to the A-4E-C project, whose names appear in the changelog below:

  • This update, A-4E-C 2.1.0, and all subsequent updates will not be compatible with DCS versions before 2.8.0.32066. Our last update, A-4E-C 2.0.1, is not compatible with DCS versions after 2.7.18.30765. The most common effects of these incompatibilities are client-side crashes. Always ensure servers, clients, and DCS versions employed are the most compatible options available!
  • If you enjoy suppression of enemy air defences (SEAD) in the A-4E-C, we've provided new functionality and depth to the audio environment of the AN/APR-25 Radar Homing and Warning System. New sounds specific to radar types and individual units in the DCS World theatre make getting locked up a whole new ballgame. Additionally, ECM is modelled when the AN/APR-25 function selector is in the RPT position. Additional documentation is provided in the changelog below and in the kneeboard manual.
  • We've added new audio feedback for braking. This feedback is extremely useful for understanding ground handling response: If you hear a tire skidding, you are locking up the nosewheel by over-braking, and you should take this as a cue to release the brake, before tapping the brake toward your desired turn (and add a little throttle if you need to).
  • This update also includes efforts to make piloting more accessible. Dozens of new input bindings for keyboard, mouse, and joystick inputs offer a wealth of opportunities for custom controller builders. Users with extensive input bindings might need to do a bit of housekeeping, but we hope the new additions make up any efforts you have to undertake! If you are interested in adding to the module's accessibility options, please reach out on Discord!
Thank you for flying the A-4E-C!

A-4E-C Version 2.1.0

Hello, A-4E-C pilots! We hope you are well. We'd like to highlight a few important items about this update, and salute the newest group of contributors to the A-4E-C project, whose names appear in the changelog below:

  • With the arrival of DCS World 2.8, the module needs to be brought up to standard with this update. Our last update, A-4E-C 2.0.1, is not compatible with DCS versions after 2.7.18.30765. This update, 2.1.0 and all subsequent updates are not compatible with DCS versions before 2.8.0.32066. If you're a server or connecting to a server, it is increasingly important for servers and clients to use the same version of the module.
  • If you enjoy suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD) in the A-4E-C, we've provided new depth to the audio environment of the AN/APR-23 Radar Homing and Warning System. New sounds specific to radar types and individual units in the DCS World theater make getting locked up a whole new ballgame. Additional documentation is provided in the changelog below and in the kneeboard manual.
  • We've added new audio feedback for braking. This feedback is extremely useful for understand ground handling response: If you hear a tire skidding, you are locking up the nosewheel by over-braking, and you should take this as a cue to release and continue tapping the brake toward your desires turn (and add a little throttle if you need to). The controls indicator has also been adjusted to be more sensitive to nosewheel movement around the center, so you can more clearly see the results of your inputs better than ever. Even if you are short on axis inputs, the new Wheelbrake Differential (Single Axis) option makes for a great modifier option to almost any axis.
  • This update has included efforts to make the module more accessible. A lot of new input bindings, including gamepad presets for Xbox and Playstation controllers, offer a wealth of opportunities for custom controller builders who want to fly in DCS World. Users with extensive input binding setups might need to do a bit of housekeeping, but we hope the new additions make up any efforts you have to undertake! Additional details are provided in the kneeboard manual. Providing additional accessibility to the module is a goal, so if you're interested, please reach out on Discord! https://discord.gg/tQZbkTQ
Thank you for flying the A-4E-C!

Hello, everyone. This first update since the 2.0.0 release is primarily aimed at fixing bugs, although a few other nice new features have been added as well.

A-4E-C 2.0.1, is not compatible with DCS versions after 2.7.18.30765. If you are on DCS World version 2.8 or later, you must upgrade to the latest version of the A-4E-C to avoid unexpected crashes.

Without further ado, let's get to the changelog!

Version 2.0.1 - 6 Mar 2022

Added

  • Missions:
    • Option to disable the use of Night Vision Goggles equipment (NVG) in the mission editor.
  • Liveries:
    • USN VC-10 Challengers, 1988.
  • Quality of Life:
    • The A-4E-C can now be operated by many new countries. Liveries have been edited to match, Malaysia to the TUDM livery, for example.
    • Several new single input (momentary) bindings, and continuous inputs for AFCS Heading Select Pull-to-Set Knob.
    • Waypoint names specified in the Mission Editor are displayed on the kneeboard. Included missions have been updated to make use of this.
    • Fuel and aircraft loadout information are displayed in the kneeboard. This page automatically updates if the aircraft is rearmed or refueled.

Fixed

  • Features:
    • Ground handling improved for greater control using differential braking (cleaned the oil out of the brake drums).
    • Improved pitch stability and more correct low speed/high aoa handling.
  • Systems:
    • Altimeter updated to use more realistic realistic barometric calculations.
    • AN/APG-53A Radar AoA Compensation Switch now properly affects returns from ships. A/G mode uses the same monte carlo sampling for beam shape, taking a weighted average of intensities to determine the range.
    • APC light now turns off once the system engages (thanks pohlinkzei).
    • Fuel system getting no longer gets stuck in flight refuel mode. 3-position fuel system switches default keybinds now cycle between available positions.
    • Fixed IN RANGE lamp no longer flickers when MASTER TEST pressed (thanks nima3333).
  • Weapons and Loadouts:
    • CBU-1/A, CBU-2/A and CBU-2B/A Cluster Dispensers now dispense an accurate number of bomblets with a minim amount of performance impact.
  • Missions:
    • A-4E-C now properly represented by an A aircraft icon representative of the aircraft's role.
    • Unlimited fuel support in the mission editor works (thanks nima3333)
  • Quality of Life:
    • Up/down mouse click behavior for 3-position switches that were inverted so that all such switches behave identically.
    • Hemisphere information on waypoint coordinates on the kneeboard now display properly on Nevada and Normandy maps.
    • Corrected documentation URL files.

Changed

  • Systems:
    • AN/ARN-52 TACAN volume provides a better response across available knob position range.
    • CP-741/A steady gunsight position must be established to receive accurate raging information. The computer now accounts for ejection velocity improving accuracy in some regimes.
  • Weapons and Loadouts:
    • Changed MK-77 napalm canisters to have a cluster effect which is much closer to actual napalm.
    • More realistic MK12 guns charging and clearance: Guns can be armed and safed a total of 3 times before available charging nitrogen is depleted. The gun arming and safing when these charges are dispensed is audible. The ground crew performing a rearm will replenish nitrogen charges.
    • More realistic MK4 HIPEG Gun Pods charging: Gunpods will now respond to charges only when their station is readied before engaging the gunpod switch to the CHARGE position. Setting this switch to CLEAR clears all gunpods on the aircraft, until the ground crew rearms the aircraft.
    • Fixed wheel brake default keybinds to a more comfortable LCTRL+W and LALT+W, to make differential braking easier for keyboard users and to be in accordance with more DCS modules. As a result, the Emergency Stores Release Handle (Jettison) has been reassigned to LCTRL+J.
  • Quality of Life:
    • 4k- and VR-friendly asset for the loading screen. (thanks Tuuvas)
    • New mission briefing screen.

    • Stabiliser trim.
    • Wing vapour effect.
    • Cockpit shake effect.
    • Basic wing overstress.
    • Damage to engine and aerodynamic surfaces (physically simulation only).

      • Fuel panel switch functions.
      • Bypass switch can bypass the wing tank in case of wing leak.
      • Flight refuel switch no longer bypasses wing tank, this enables/disables external tank flight refueling.
    • CP-741/A Bombing Computer:
      • In range light illuminates when within a distance that pulling up 45 degrees would release the bombs.
    • AN/ARC-51A UHF Radio:
      • Radio with VOIP (thanks TheRealHarold)
      • Salute option and Request Launch options to radio menu.
    • AN/ARN-52 TACAN and AN/ARA-63 MCL:
      • TACAN for moving objects (tankers and ships) and portable TACAN stations.
      • Manual Carrier Landing (MCL/ICLS) system and its bit test.
      • Note for TACAN and MCL/ICLS: The method used relies on the mission file. This means for a TACAN or MCL to be detected the unit (or unit with the same unit name) must exist in the mission file. Replacement objects can be spawned in to replace dead units however they must have a name which contains the original name to be correctly found by the TACAN and MCL system. This method should work 99% of the time with regular missions however if you run into trouble it is worth checking the following conditions:
        • Unit with TACAN/MCL exists in the mission file (placed in editor).
        • Equivalent unit with a name which contains the original name of the unit placed in the editor (for example UNIT3 would find a unit named UNIT3_OTHERSTUFF, if UNIT3 needed to be respawned).
        • Unit does not share a channel regardless of X or Y band.
    • AN/APG-53A Radar overhaul:
      • Radar can cast many more rays per frame.
      • Gaussian beam shape is simulated using monte carlo sampling.
      • Range lines can now be lit by the reticle knob, and are now drawn on top of the radar returns and remain visible.
      • Updated screen simulation and storage to be more realistic.
      • Updated radar reflection values for cities and other reflective terrain features.
      • Ships can be detected by the radar.
      • A Legacy Mode option in special menu is present allows might save users with older CPUs some performance.
    • AN/ASN-41 Navigation Computer:
      • System now integrates from starting position functioning correctly.
      • Integration happens in D1 and D2 only, set to D1 or D2 to have the correct position. Switching to STBY will pause the integration.
      • The AN/APN-153 Doppler Navigation Radar is vital to preventing drift. Minor errors are introduced for sensors producing drift over time. Average drift is about 2 - 3 nautical miles per hour. Drift will increase with heavy maneouvering.
    • AFCS and APC:
      • Re-wrote AFCS and APC for EFM integration.
      • AFCS rolls out when disabling heading mode.
      • AFCS test (cursory implementation, the indicators do not function correctly yet).
      • Stability Augmentation Switch (yaw damper).
    • Catapult Power Mode toggle for carrier launches - DEFAULT mode supports the Stennis and Supercarrier. A new mode, AUTO makes speed and mass calculations when launching from aircraft carrier mods (for example, the HMAS Melbourne) more realistic. (Default: 'LCtrl+U').
    • Oxygen system (hypoxia is enabled).
    • Air data computer AXC-666 for AN/ASN-41 and CP-741/A, no external functionality, but this lays some ground work for more realistic simulation.

    • Updated installation and troubleshooting instructions.
  • Flight Model:

    • Surfaces, horizontal stab, elevator, vertical stab, rudder, to not use beta, as this previously caused an ill defined wind axes to body transformation at high beta values causing the lift/drag values to be inverted.
    • Significantly increased slats lift.
    • Increased induced drag at high AoA (unrealistic negation of lift and drag caused by the issue above at > 90 deg AoA or beta).
    • Increased wing drag onset at > 40 degrees AoA.
    • Beta calculated per surface rather than using the overall airframe beta. This fixes some edge of the envelope nastiness
