Election_Analysis

Overview

An employee from the Colorado Board of Elections is completing an election audit of a local congressional election. He requires the following information to complete the audit:

The total number of votes cast

A list of candidates in the election

The number of votes each candidate received

The percentage of votes won by each candidate

The winning candidate based on popular vote

The voter turnout for each county

Percentage of votes from each county

The county with the highest turnout

All relevant election data comes from the "election_results.csv" in the "Resources" folder.

Audit Results

• The total number of votes cast was 369,711

• The following is a breakdown of the number of votes and percentage of total votes for each county:

• The following is a breakdown of the number of votes and percentage of total votes for each candidate:

• The winning candidate of the election was Diana DeGette, with a vote count of 272,892 (73.8% of the total votes)

Audit Summary

Provided the election data is given in the same format, this script's use could be extended to other types of elections with minimal modification. For instance, the script could be adapted for federal elections. Lists, dictionaries and other data objects referring to counties would of course need to be modified for states, and print statements referring to counties would also have to be altered accordingly to refer to states instead.
