Masterclass - Introduction to Power BI



This repository contains support material used during the Masterclass Introduction to Power BI offered by JADS MKB datalab to JADS' students.

During these hands-on session students learn some concepts of Power BI, one of the most popular business intelligence platforms. We will explore topics such as:

  • Power BI Features
  • Power BI Interface
  • How to load data into Power BI
  • How to transform data (Power Query Editor)
  • Introduce DAX (New measure, Quick Measure, …)
  • Build visualizations (types, hierarchies, drill-down paths, sorting, filtering, controlling interactivity) After completing this workshop, you will be able to further explore and use Power BI o build impactful reports and dashboards!

Furthermore, during this session we present some real datasets and some challenges that might be encountered when working with real data.

Power BI files with the answer of exercises are found in Reports.

Data

For the hands-on part we work with a subset of the Adventure Works Data Warehouse 2019.

The Adventure Works company represents a bicycle manufacturer that sells bicycles and accessories to global markets. The company has their data warehouse data stored in an Azure SQL Database.



The subset with selected tables can be download from AdventureWorksDW_subset.

Pre-requisites

Install Power BI

✅ Download subset of AdventureWorksDW2019 (available in this repository)

✅ Take a quick look at the data to have an idea what the data is about

⚠️ If you use Mac refer to Power-BI-Manual in the repository to make possible using Power BI.
