Downgrade

Good Ol' Days

If you ever read the NVG589 Administrator's Handbook V9.1.0 you know there is a built-in telnet service. However in the recent firmware AT&T disabled this feature to prevent us to brick it. The first thing we need to do is to downgrade.

Just in case you don't know, this operation will not wipe router's data and you won't lose your internet.

  1. Download the firmware from here[1].

WARNING: This firmware is found on the internet and I cannot assure that it's 100% malware free. Use it at your own risk!

The firmware version is h4d38. So far up to h12d15_1.1 is confirmed working.

  2. Go to your router's Upload page, usually http://192.168.1.254/cgi-bin/update.ha.

  3. Enter the access code, select the firmware you just downloaded, and click Update button.

  4. Wait for it to finish and now you can go to the next guide. What the internet is down? Never mind...
