This allows autoformatting the changelog after adding new entries possible without introducing unrelated changes. This is the v8.x backport of #718.

Note: I've created this backport because I autoformatted the changelog for the release, which introduced all kinds of unrelated changes. (So I'm scratching my own itch here.) From version 8.5.0 downward, I've copied the changelog from |
