I'll be back on my laptop to work on this tonight. Sorry for the disruption. Time permitting, I might try to combine some of release and release-cross so as to catch/prevent such things post release.

mkDerivation: Fix cross compilation
06cd7c1 
Derivations where drawing their `system` attribute from `hostPlatform`
instead of `buildPlatform`. Fix that, and add an explanatory commment.

Fixes #45993
