How to configure on MATE desktop environment

  • First, install OpenBangla-Keyboard as per the instructions given here.

  • Now open up IBus Preferences by going to System>Preferences>Other>IBus Preferences from the top panel.

  • The IBus Preferences window will open up.

From here, select the Input Method tab.

  • Click on Add, and a new window with a list of languages will pop up.

  • Select Bengali. You'll see OpenBangla Keyboard layout listed there.

Select it and click on Add. You'll now see two input methods listed on the Input Method tab.

  • Now go to the General tab and choose a Keyboard shortcut for changing your layout between English and OpenBangla Keyboard. You can see below that I've chosen it to be F12.

  • Reboot your system. (This is important, if you don't reboot, the changes might not take effect)
