How We Work

Our Working Style

PolicyEngine aims to attract contributors from all backgrounds and experience levels. As such, PolicyEngine provides a mostly hands-off experience: contributors could only ever author one PR, or could contribute 40 hours every week, all depending on their level of comfort.

How We Communicate

That said, PolicyEngine tries to bring contributors together to build a stronger developer community and fertilize cross-team growth and learning. The root of our communications is our public Slack group, where contributors and partners alike can raise issues, ask questions, and seek assistance. Slack links expire periodically, so we don't publish one; instead, share a link to your LinkedIn or other account in any GitHub issue and mention that you're looking to join the Slack, and we'll send you a link via private message.

PolicyEngine contributors work worldwide across timezones, but there is a team meeting scheduled for every Wednesday at noon US Eastern Time, where contributors across the team can get together to discuss their work and any challenges they may have run into. This is preceded at 11am Eastern Time by app office hours, where app contributors can drop in to chat about issues, ask more general questions about the app, or discuss relevant programming concepts more generally. Both are available in our public calendar at https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/0?cid=MTRiNzlhMTdiNThiZWI1ZjBlMDMxZWI1NWRiZjUzYmVjYTE0NGY3ZGFmZjc4NDVmNDZjNGRlZWM1YTE0OWVkZkBncm91cC5jYWxlbmRhci5nb29nbGUuY29t.
