In this project, I built an interactive dashboard using Plotly to explore the Belly Button Biodiversity dataset, which catalogs the microbes that colonize human navels. The dataset reveals that a small handful of microbial species (also called operational taxonomic units, or OTUs, in the study) were present in more than 70% of people, while the rest were relatively rare.
The dashboard contains a series of interactive charts(bar, bubble, gauge, etc), a small panel that displays information about the data and a dropdown for the user to select the desired patient ID. All charts get updated once the value in the dropdown changes.
- A horizontal bar chart with a dropdown menu to display the top 10 OTUs found in that individual.
- A bubble chart that displays each sample.
- A panel displaying the sample metadata, i.e., an individual's demographic information.
- A gauge Chart that plots the weekly washing frequency of the individual.
The app is deployed using Heroku and FLASK. The link to the app is - https://pg-bellybuttondiversity.herokuapp.com/
