How to search the library
The gallery has configurable search allowing to filter the library content by custom queries, people, albums, folders and various file types. To open the search, click the search bar at the top of the gallery screen.
You can enter your custom query with PhotoPrism search filters into the input field at the top of the search screen. To apply the search, click the "Apply" button at the bottom or the "Go" button on your keyboard.
If you have face recognition enabled in your library, people and new faces are shown on the search screen. Click the person and apply the search by clicking the "Apply" button to get photos with them. If you select multiple people, you only get photos where all of them are present.
💡 To get photos with any people, enter the
face:yes
query without selecting anyone.
In the people list, favorite named people go first, and the rest are ordered by number of photos.
💡 To make someone always appear at the beginning of the people list, go to the "People" section of the PhotoPrism web app and star the person.
If you don't see new faces, this is probably because you don't have enough photos with them. Either upload more photos or go to the "People" section of the PhotoPrism web app, click "Show all new faces" under the "New" tab and manually name the found faces through the photo edit form.
If you have disabled face recognition in your library and don't want to see the empty people list on the search screen, you can disable it.
- Go to Preferences by pressing the "More" button in the left corner of the search bar;
- Under the "Search" section, switch off the "People" option.
Manually created albums as well as folders are shown on the search screen. Click the album and apply the search by clicking the "Apply" button to only get content from it.
In the albums list, favorite albums and folders go first, and the rest are ordered alphabetically.
💡 To make some album or folder always appear at the beginning of the albums list, go to the "Albums" or "Folders" section of the PhotoPrism web app and star the item.
If you don't bother with albums and don't want them on the search screen, you can disable it.
- Go to Preferences by pressing the "More" button in the left corner of the search bar;
- Under the "Search" section, switch off the "Albums" option.
You can search for the content of only certain file types. Click the required types and apply the search by clicking the "Apply" button.
If the gallery is launched to pick content for another app, like Gmail, the available file types may be limited according to the requesting app capabilities.
By default, the gallery doesn't show private content (nudity, photos under the review or manually marked as private). To get the private content along with the public one, click the "Include private content" checkbox and apply the search by clicking the "Apply" button.
The Search bookmarks feature allows saving your search configurations and apply them later with a click.
