Hi all,

I'm having a bit of an editing issue. I've added an info box to a page, using one from an established page for format, but I'm getting an 'unknown punctuation' warning come up. I've included my edit and the warning. I can't see any difference in the expression - does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
P

@PAZHames Odd. I would expect that error to mean that there is a stray opening { somewhere that isn't expected, but I don't see it in your screenshot. (I presume the infobox ends with }} somewhere further down eventually?)

One thing that occurs to me is that the tag |df=yes ought to mean that the date is "day-first" format, but since you have only the year of birth, maybe that's confusing it? Try removing the df tag altogether, and see if that helps?

@gabrielbodard I just removed |df=yes, but no cigar. And yes, there is a }} at the bottom. But useful to know! I assumed it was 'date from'.

^^What a completely bizarre few sentences.

@PAZHames well I may be wrong! :) Have you saved the page, or are you keeping your draft in a separate doc somewhere so as not to lose it? If you've saved, would you like to give me the link and I'll look at it on WP? (Alternatively, temporarily delete that line and see if it still complains. If not, at least we know where the problem was.)

@PAZHames : Ah, I've just looked at the manual and it seems that what we want when there is only a year is {{birth year|1522}} rather than {{birth date}}. Maybe it was complaining because it was seeing the closing }} before the month and day that it was expecting…

Does that work?

@RichardNevell, Thank you for your offer to take a look! I was able to have a community member review my edits through the help center on Wikipedia (I made all of my edits at once so the user reverted all of my edits rather than the primary edit they took issue with (which was a valid mistake)) and I also sorted the vandalism issue with this user (apparently it flagged as vandalism automatically because they reverted edits I made on another page (?) but they apologized). All in a days learning I suppose! Many thanks.

Would you consider adding the Latin alongside the translation on this page?

@gabrielbodard Thank you for the suggestion - I was intending on further structuring the article soon, and will certainly add that in.
