As reported here initially, APEX hangs during the output of the OTF2 archive on HPX shutdown when using the HPX parcelport:

[...]
Closing OTF2 event files...
Writing OTF2 definition files...

HPX 1.6.0 is configured to use the MPI parcelport and with increasing number of MPI ranks/HPX localities the chance of encountering the deadlock increases drastically.
