Downloading custom files from "community" servers doesn't work #11
Comments
Also experiencing this issue, using Gentoo as well.

I'm on arch linux
|
Looking at network traffic, it doesn't even contact the fast DL server at all when downloading custom content like maps. It works fine when downloading the MOTD though (also hosted on a fast DL server) |
This also happens on OSX since the last big mac update. It gets stuck on 25% constantly and then disconnects. If the map is already downloaded, connecting works fine |
I should note it DOES download maps from the workshop. |
I cannot download maps or custom content it just its at 0% and nothing happens. |

Same problem |
+1 |
same here. just sits at 0% and I have to kill the game to get out. |
👍 |
For some reason I was able to download both the map and the files from this particular server, can anyone else verify? 71.237.239.114:27016 It was on aim_redline fwiw. |
I was able to download the files and played on the server. |
I was able download from it as well. I'm pretty sure the reason for that was because it was downloading directly from the server (or possibly the workshop) as opposed to downloading from a fast DL server like most servers use (which doesn't work). |
Does anyone know how to disable downloading drom fast download? I mean this files are on the csgo server and fdl server. |
Can you please provide an example of a server which doesn't work? |
@davidw-valve Any server with fast downloads enabled, 208.146.44.44:27015, 208.146.44.163:27015, etc... |

When csgo will be updated? valve pls |
This issue might be related to problems with sv_downloadurl in the linux version |
This is fixed now. |

At least we know, that they read this issue. |
At this point I'm wondering if the game would run better under proton instead of the severely broken port. |
It's not THAT bad. It was actually working really good, but going without another update to break it completely would be out of character. Try installing Also, don't forget about the workarounds for this issue: |
Still having this issue on openSUSE Tumbleweed, this has been reported over 4 years ago, and still no fix?! |
Could any Valve developer comment on this bug? Do you need any information? Do you know about this issue? Can we do anything to help? |

Pls if u need any more information on this fix just tell me i will beta testing for you volvo |
this bug is still present |
Still present for me aswell. Been like this for as long as i can remember. |
Was this issue fixed in the yesterdays update? I saw strings of curl in the update and apparently joining community servers is now working fine for me. |
It works for me as well! |
Looks like fixed partially. |
I can confirm it works now on Arch Linux. Thank you Valve. I expected the fix 1459 days ago but thanks anyway. I tested the servers that didn't work before and it works great. Just please don't break it again, I'd like to not have to wait until 2022 for another fix. I can finally try some surf servers! |
I didn't test yet, but thanks a lot! |
downloads are actually working now |
Works on debian/sid. Thank you so much! |
Thanks, Valve! One other problem I've noticed now is that the net_maxfilesize CVAR is not present, yet a dedicated server (well, a listen server as well) refuses to send any files bigger than 16MB over the standard protocol, quoting that as being the net_maxfilesize value. I suppose that means that Valve decided to cap it at that, but I like running a server with custom maps for brief games with my friends and setting up FastDL for that just doesn't sound reasonable. |
Colour me surprised, Volvo actually fixed something. |
holy crap you fixed it! thank you valve |
We fixed this issue in the last update; closing this. |
I tried connecting several "community" servers (worked around the issue #3 by connecting with the connect command through the console).
Each and every time, if the server needs custom files, the game starts a download but it is stuck at 0%, indefinitelly/
I tried those same custom file URLs with wget and with a web browser and outside the game, those files download perfectly fine, so it's definitely a problem with the game itself.
