RHEL In-place Upgrade Automation Workshop

Proposed Changes

In the workshop it says to view the other servers, other than ansible-1.example.com, from the Web Console/Cockpit. However, student@ user is not on the other servers. and adding student, and the associated ssh key, still doesn't allow access from the Web Console. Therefore there is no way to view the pre-upgrade reports for the servers as described in the workshop.

@techgirlgeek What process/mode is being utilized for your workbench provisioning and deployment? Are you using the automation from this project directly to deploy workbench resources? Or are you using another mode of deployment, for example, Red Hat Demo Platform?

@techgirlgeek In reviewing your reported issue, it appears that this has something related to older package versions as part of the RHEL 9.2 release. The configuration of the RHEL web console/cockpit remote machine definitions, cert/keys, etc are all automated as part of the initial workshop deploy automation. This was all working correctly as of several weeks back. Performing sudo dnf -y update as the student user on the ansible-1 controller followed by sudo shutdown -r now and then reconnecting after the controller reboots will then display the remote RHEL hosts in the RHEL web console drop down menu. I am testing a deployment in development where an updated controller will already be deployed...I will report back once this has been tested and rolled out into production.

@techgirlgeek Testing a deploy of the development version of the catalog item utilizing an updated RHEL 9.5 base image is resulting in a correctly functioning RHEL web console/cockpit remote host menu definition and operation. Look to see the update being pushed to production at the beginning of next week. Greatly appreciate your report of the improper exercise behavior as well as your patience as we roll out the updated workbench components.
