I suspect there will be a proliferation of these little preference switches as we go through and implement the SIP-34 redesign. I think rather than having them scattered all over, it might make sense to have a "preferences" pane, either on the Profile view, or on a new view alongside it. There, preferences could be organized by section or theme, and organized hierarchically if needed. I'm happy to take a stab at a design pattern for that.

All that said, a new view seems outside the scope of this ticket. If there's a way to make this a user preference rather than an env setting in the shorter term without adding too much complexity here, that seems like a reasonable compromise.

@mistercrunch @etr2460 @rusackas I've updated this PR to use a checkbox. I'm having some trouble getting travis to pass, seems like infra related errors. If this last one doesn't work, I'd appreciate a rerun from a committer (getting tired of force-pushing sha changes).

i think you can set these default props on line 68 in the new file with something like:

constructor({ onBlur = () => {}, onChange = () => {}, ... , ...restProps}: Props) { super({onBlur, onChange, ..., ...restProps});

then you don't need to add in all the checks like if (this.props.onBlur)

Ah nice, I like that pattern. I went on a bit of a fruitless rabbit hole a while back trying to figure out how to make defaultProps work with the Props types.

I don't think this is useful as an environment feature flag. I'm thinking most people want autocomplete.

@mistercrunch I've updated the PR to use a checkbox (default enabled) in the editor for anyone wanting to disable autocomplete on the fly.

This was brought up in an issue here #9335

Not blocking, but i'll bet once we roll this out, people will want the ability to default this setting or to have it grab the setting from the current tab when creating the new one.
