Given this API never worked we can probably delete it entirely?

@damieng - Currently, the method will through an exception based on the 404 it will receive. These calls should be wrapped with a try ... catch so that would be caught and handled. If I just remove the method, that will cause a fatal error, which might not be handled. I'm planning the major that will remove this so it won't be there for long.
