Proxy settings

To configure global proxy settings for Firefox, place and adjust the following content into your working directory.

proxy.js:

pref("network.proxy.http", "proxy.server.local");
pref("network.proxy.http_port", 8080);
pref("network.proxy.ssl", "proxy.server.local");
pref("network.proxy.ssl_port", 8080);
pref("network.proxy.no_proxies_on", "localhost, 127.0.0.1, *.server.local");
pref("network.proxy.type", 1);
pref("network.proxy.share_proxy_settings", true);
docker run -v "$PWD/proxy.js:/etc/firefox/pref/proxy.js" ..

Custom preferences

You can add your custom preferences file by overriding the default preferences.

docker run -v "mozilla.cfg:/usr/lib64/firefox/defaults/preferences/all-redhat.js"

Problems

vsyscall is disabled on some Linux distributions

The glibc version used in the container is utilizing vsyscall. On recent Linux distributions like Debian, vsyscall is disabled.

To enable vsyscall, add the following parameter to your Kernel parameter list at /etc/default/grub.conf.

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="vsyscall=emulate"

IcedTea cannot run Java application

If you cannot run the Java application from within Firefox, you can still try to run javaws from command line.

Instead of opening the JNLP file (the default), you can save the file to /home/firefox/Downloads and then close Firefox.

Run the following command to run javaws command instead of Firefox.

docker run --rm -ti \
 -v "${HOME}/Downloads:/home/firefox/Downloads:rw" \
 -v "/tmp/.X11-unix:/tmp/.X11-unix" \
 -e "DISPLAY=unix${DISPLAY}" \
 -e "uid=$(id -u)" \
 -e "gid=$(id -g)" \
 ugrawert/firefox-java javaws /home/firefox/Downloads/launch.jpnl
