Would be nice to have a full example (i.e. from an open dataset) that doesn't require any transformations at all

One use case for this (but that won't work with fitlins) is using the BIDS stats model to denoise resting state data: specify which confounds to add in the design matrix and the hich pass and low pass cut off for the filters.

The residuals from the GLM would be your denoised data.
