I've added tests (if it's a bug, feature or enhancement)
I've adjusted the documentation (if it's a feature or enhancement)
The test suite passes (run bundle exec rspec to verify this)

Summary

dont use layers that end with - only. This is due to TS_EXTRA not being set
rename env var from TS_SHOW_ALL_LAYERS to TS_LAYERING_SHOW_ALL
introduce TS_LAYERING_SHOW env variable
