Despite recent demonstration against the extradition bill at my hometown, here's a system that's more terrifying than the mob's rule at Yuen Long: social credit system. Some readers of the book 1984 have reminded themselves of this great novel when they learnt about this system from the media.
That's a form of dictatorship by the CCP. Many dissidents see their "scores" evaporated with their liberty. Even worse, the "untrustworthy" people's children would lost their place in public educational institutions, where social mobility is supposed to take place. That's against the universal values of individual freedom and equality before the law.
Official propaganda provided an illusionary image of "trust" and prosperity in the private sectors because reported cases of fraud has plummeted. However, the authorities intentionally keep the acutal rules for score calculations in obscurity. This is supported by a host of cases of dramatic score manipulations.
It would be nice if your project can give a brief introduction to this system and its impact on individual's rights and freedom.
P.S. Working on Staticman integration for several blog themes for the moment, I can't write you an essay.
