Description

Commit c132608 added two new fields in the statistics JSON, a "txidle" and "rxidle" field. In my case, after creating a new producer, the value for these fields for some brokers were 18446744073709551615, i.e. 2**64 - 1. But these should be outputted in the JSON as -1, which is also how they have been documented in STATISTICS.md.

In my case, even if I have no particular interest in these new fields, this change actually caused a regression in my program when I tried to upgrade from librdkafka v1.6.1 to v1.7.0, given that I was using libjansson to parse the JSON, and libjansson used signed integers and will actually fail to decode the JSON with a "too big integer" error by default. (There are solutions to that, like asking libjansson to parse all numbers as double instead of integers, but then you'll also lose precision when doing so (given a common 64-bits double) where 18446744073709551615 will be approximated to some other number, etc... In this case I still feel like the right solution would be to have librdkafka output -1)

How to reproduce

Some pseudo-code, the idea is to just create a new producer connected to a kafka cluster with more than 1 broker and let it idle:

int main(void) {
    ...
    kafka_conf = rd_kafka_conf_new();
    rd_kafka_conf_set_stats_cb(kafka_conf, kafka_stats_cb);
    ...
    rk = rd_kafka_new(RD_KAFKA_PRODUCER, kafka_conf, ...);
    ...
}

int kafka_stats_cb(rd_kafka_t *rk, char *buf, size_t len, void *opaque)
{
    json_error_t err;

    if ((json = json_loadb(buf, len, 0, &err)) == NULL) {
        printf("Could not decode rdkafka statistics JSON: %s\n", err.text);
    }
    ....

Here's an except of the (re-formatted) JSON it produce, with two brokers included, the second broker in this example has the rxidle / txidle values set to 2 ** 64 - 1:

sasl: Enable AWS_MSK_IAM SASL mechanism (confluentinc#3402)

AWS_MSK_IAM is a new SASL mechanism for
authenticating clients to AWS MSK Kafka
clusters and use IAM-based controls to
set Kafka ACLs and permissions. This change
provides support to allow clients to pass
AWS credentials at runtime which is used
to build the SASL payload and authenticate
clients to IAM enabled MSK clusters. It adds
a new SASL mechanism, AWS_MSK_IAM, as well
as configuration options to set the following:
* AWS access key id
* AWS secret access key
* AWS region
* AWS security token
The SASL handshake requires a specific payload
that is described here:
https://github.com/aws/aws-msk-iam-auth

sasl: Enable AWS_MSK_IAM SASL mechanism (confluentinc#3402)

AWS_MSK_IAM is a new SASL mechanism for
authenticating clients to AWS MSK Kafka
clusters and use IAM-based controls to
set Kafka ACLs and permissions. This change
provides support to allow clients to pass
AWS credentials at runtime which is used
to build the SASL payload and authenticate
clients to IAM enabled MSK clusters. It adds
a new SASL mechanism, AWS_MSK_IAM, as well
as configuration options to set the following:
* AWS access key id
* AWS secret access key
* AWS region
* AWS security token
The SASL handshake requires a specific payload
that is described here:
https://github.com/aws/aws-msk-iam-auth
