Howdy! If you're looking for some delicious recipes, complete with photos contributed from the good people of the Internet, I'd like to recommend the recipe generator. It loves to cook. And with recipes like Garlicky Quick and Easy Spinach, Chocolate Chip Restaurant-Style Ostrich Meatballs, and Fruity King Crab Mango (And I Mean Perfect), you'll love to eat.

https://github.com/scotchfield/nanogenmo2014

Sample output here: http://scootah.com/recipe/

The generator includes a few new corpora that would surely benefit from some pull requests. :)

Happy November!

These recipes are so hot, they've been blocked by my corporate web-filter for being too risqué!

I love the complete mismatch between ingredients and measurements --
tablespoons of apple and dollops of cake and such.

Awesome :) The robot apocalypse is really going to shake things up in the
kitchen.

@enkiv2 "cake" is more accurately measured in either "mouthfuls" or "handfuls".

Ha! Nothing like a good faceful of cake. :#)

I pushed a full 50k+ word book version here:
http://scootah.com/recipe/recipe50k.html
Realized that the shorter recipes weren't hitting the target goal. Also, there are a few more instructions in the combination corpus for generating what to add and when (and how often to turn on the oven, apparently).
.. and probably pushed my Flickr API limits for the hour near the max!

You could have a tumblr that posts a new recipe every day. Pinterest would be all over this.

Now that they're on Tumblr, they need some sort of intro. "Just in time for Curling Season" or "My wife hates it when I make these" or all that boilerplately stuff:

My friends and neighbors expect me to bring this irresistible dip to every gathering. When I arrive, they ask, "You brought your bean dip, didn't you?" If there are any leftovers, we use them to make bean and cheese burritos the next day. I've given out this recipe a hundred times. - Janey Joan Does, Omaha, Nebraska

I’ve been making Best-Ever Southwestern Black Bean Dip for years and years. This black bean and veggie-packed dip is fresh and will quickly become a staple in your house! more

This recipe was inspired by a black bean dip I had at a restaurant in Costa Rica that was better than any other black bean dip I'd ever tried. Admittedly, it is not going to win a beauty contest but it's so flavorful, healthy and easy to make, you won't care.

The secret is using lots of onions, garlic, jalapeños, and fresh lime juice to boost the flavor (on their own, black beans are very bland). I also like to add lots of fresh cilantro but if you don't care for it, it's perfectly fine to leave it out.

Before we get to the recipe, a few words on jalapeño peppers. Two might seem like a lot, but I don't use the seeds, which is where most of the heat is. The dip has a little kick, but it's not spicy. If you like a spicy dip, you can add some of the seeds but go easy -- you can always add more at the end. Also, be sure to either wear gloves or wash your hands very well after handling jalapeños, and never touch your face while you're chopping -- if the juice comes in contact with your eyes, it will sting something awful! last three paragraphs

I noticed that, in many cases, the name of the recipe prominently features
an ingredient that does not actually appear in the recipe. This is
wonderful. I'm looking forward to people on tumblr trying to actually make
these recipes, because your blog looks very similar to legitimate recipe
blogs :)

Comments on these recipes would be just like on the real ones "I made this, and it was awful! I followed the directions exactly (except I used hot dogs instead of ground beef, substituted jalapenos for the green peppers, and cooked it under the broiler instead of a crockpot). I don't know what went wrong. Were some instructions missing?"

Haha! Yeah. Though, I'm looking forward to someone trying to fit 1.5
gallons of grapes in a 3x5 inch greased pan...

This is really growing into something akin to a real cookbook! I really like the idea, let me take a crack at it in the next couple of days. I'll also post the tumblr bot code to the repo.

I noticed that, in many cases, the name of the recipe prominently features an ingredient that does not actually appear in the recipe. This is wonderful.

Ha! That's one of my favourite parts too! It genuinely confuses some people, but that's part of the absurdist charm that procedural generation provides. :)

I'm looking forward to people on tumblr trying to actually make these recipes, because your blog looks very similar to legitimate recipe blogs :)

I feel sorry for anybody who decides to cook one of these! (But, like you, I can't wait to hear the reviews!)

So now we need a flock of bots to auto-comment on the recipes:

“I didn’t have any eggs, so I replaced them with a banana-chia-flaxseed pulse. It turned out terrible; this recipe is terrible.”

“I don’t have any of these ingredients at home. Could you rewrite this based on the food I do have in my house? I’m not going to tell you what food I have. You have to guess.”

“I don’t eat white flour, so I tried making it with raw almonds that I’d activated by chewing them with my mouth open to receive direct sunlight, and it turned out terrible. This recipe is terrible.”

“Could you please give the metric weight measurements, and sometime in the next twenty minutes; I’m making this for a dinner party and my guests are already here.”

“i dont have an oven, can i still make this? please reply immediately”

“Does anyone know if you can make this ahead of time and freeze it?”

“Have you thought about making a sugar-free version of this?”

“Can you give us a calorie breakdown for this?”

“I followed this to the letter, except I substituted walnuts and tofu for the skirt steak, ditched the cheese entirely, and replaced the starch with a turnip salad. Turned out great. My seven-year-old boys have never seen a dessert and I’ve convinced them that walnut-and-turnip salad is > “cake.” Thanks for the recipe!”

“I’m having a lot of trouble signing up for your newsletter. Can you please assist?”

“a warning that if you cook this at 275°F for three hours instead of at 400°F for twenty-five minutes its completely ruined. do you have any suggestions?”

“I didn’t have buttermilk, so I just poured baking soda into a container of raspberry yogurt. It tasted terrible.”

“I love this recipe! I added garlic powder, Italian seasoning, a few flakes of nutritional yeast, half a bottle of kombucha, za’atar, dried onion, and biscuit mix to mine. Great idea!”

“Due to dietary restrictions, I am only able to eat Yatzhee dice. I made the necessary substitutions, and it turned out great.”

“If you use olive oil for any recipe that’s cooked over 450°F, the oil will denature and you will get cancer. This post is irresponsible. You should only use grapeseed oil you’ve pressed yourself in a very cold room.”

“[600-word description of what they ate today] so this will make a great addition!”

“I just started Paleo yesterday, and I’m wondering if there’s a way to make this without the ingredients.”

“I was all out of cake flour, so I transfigured my hands into puffer fish, which worked pretty well.”

“Have you considered making a version of this margherita pizza for your readers who are trying to avoid gluten, dairy and nightshades? What if I shoved a roll of basil leaves in my mouth, do you think that would taste good?”

“this was a very good post for your recipe you made, i made a similar recipe over at my blog last month, please consider linking back.”

“I’m actually a supertaster, so I can’t eat anything that isn’t licking the salt off the top of saltines; will this recipe work for me?”

“heal your body through food”

“If you don’t soak the seeds for at least fourteen hours before using, the phytic acid will give you cancer. Just thought you should know.”

@hugovk yes, THAT is what I was thinking of!

And as long as you've got a tumblrbot, and a flock of commenter bots, you're going to need google adsense and affiliate marketing. And probably some sort of infomercial video about your bot-making technique

"I made this recipe, but when I read the comments I laughed so hard that I
vomited all over the pan. Is it still safe to serve to my dinner guests?
Furthermore, I'm all out of vinegar -- can I substitute stomach acid?"
