As noted in another PR (#993 (comment)):

include a "Folder Sharing" section that explains the mechanics of what we do, links to the ruby script which will allow you to use NFS on Mac if you are interested, and includes a digression about all the Windows issues that we are encountering here.

It is too magic right now IMO. Users should know what they are getting into, how to turn it off if they want, and what its boundaries and limitations are.
