Categories are used to manage product groups. On the basic tab, you need to enter at least the title, but you also have the chance to add an category image, define a userclass that should be able to see that category and so on. On the advanced tab, you can enter more details.
This shows a list of defined categories and provides options to sort, edit and delete categories.
