eSpeak-NG is a text-to-speech program. It can read text aloud, turning written words into spoken language. For many TTS engines, Espeak-ng is a crucial component for text processing and phoneme generation.

Because of this role, installing eSpeak-NG is essential for AllTalk to function properly, even if you plan to use other text-to-speech voices.

Installation Steps

eSpeak-NG comes with AllTalk, so you don't need to download it separately. Once you git clone the AllTalk repository, here's how to install it:

  1. Find the installer:

    • Open the AllTalk folder on your computer
    • Navigate to this folder: \alltalk_tts\system\espeak-ng

  2. Start the installation:

    • Double-click the eSpeak-NG installer file
    • You might see a security warning. If so, click "Run" to continue
  3. Follow the installation wizard:

    • Click "Next" on the first screen
    • On the license agreement screen, select "I accept the agreement" and click "Next"
    • Keep clicking "Next" on the following screens, accepting the default options
    • On the final screen, click "Install"
  4. Allow the installation:

    • You'll see a message asking "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?"
    • Click "Yes" to this message
  5. Finish up:

    • Wait for the installation to complete
    • When it's done, click "Finish"
