Describe the desired behavior

Build the variant switcher using webpack v5, as requested by dependabot in #42.

Describe the current behavior

It has not been upgraded as this introduces breaking changes. Attempts were made, and console errors rained.

Look into whether upgrading to the latest 4.x.x version resolves this security vulnerability
