I actually thought this happened automatically but since it doesn't. Here's a custom function that will manage latest branch updates.

How does this differ from after deploy, cleanup? I thought cleanup cleaned up releases > 5, so if there are <= 5, it was pretty much a noop?

Yeah, i guess we can just do that. I wanted to add extra logging to show current number of releases as well.

But your solution seems simpler.
