There were two problems:

) instead ofRS::ARRAY_FORMAT_VERTEX | RS::ARRAY_FORMAT_COLOR | RS::ARRAY_FORMAT_TEX_UV

to anything and it wasn't always set so we end up with situations where it contains garbage data
