4.2 GovCMS Lifecycle
Modules and themes are marked as "deprecated" when included in the current release but scheduled for removal in a future version. Although operational, they are not recommended for use in new projects as future support will be discontinued. Site owners should plan for alternatives. In GovCMS, additional factors such as non-compliance with specific security or technical standards may also lead to deprecation.
Modules and themes are classified as "obsolete" when they cannot be installed on new sites and are retained solely for backward compatibility on existing sites. These extensions should be replaced or removed as soon as possible to avoid potential security vulnerabilities or compatibility issues. In GovCMS, a module or theme may also become obsolete if it fails to meet GovCMS security policies, does not satisfy technical requirements like PHP compatibility, lacks support from the Drupal core, or if its functionality is duplicated by other contributed modules.
