This issue was originally opened by @AncientCulture as hashicorp/terraform#15721. It was migrated here as a result of the provider split. The original body of the issue is below.

Hi,

summary

It would be really nice if terraform could also import cf stacks. This would allow on one hand the best out of both worlds (tooling of tf and conditional resource creation of cf). On the other hand it would allow smoother transition from cf to tf

Terraform Version

v0.10.0

Expected Behavior

terraform import aws_cloudformation_stack.ecs_stack
should import the current state

Actual Behavior

import throws error that this feature is not supported:
resource aws_cloudformation_stack doesn't support import
