I've got a running instance in an aws_launch_configuration with an AMI that has been removed/is no longer available (An ubuntu nightly cloud image).
The EC2 Console shows:
When I run terraform plan, even after changing the desired AMI in the .tf file, I get:
Error refreshing state: 1 error(s) occurred:
* 1 error(s) occurred:
* Expected 1 AMI for ID: ami-a52b4dd2, got: []*ec2.Image(nil)
I'm able to destroy this particular instance in favour of a new one, so it isn't a big issue for me, but it could be for other people if the AMI of a running instance gets withdrawn from availability.
