Jetty version(s)
12.0.4

Description

I had an issue with the site.state file blocking the restarting or starting of the jetty service on Ubuntu.

How to reproduce?

  • have a running website
  • edit a webapps XML file with an error
  • systemctl restart site
  • it fails, and there is a site.state file showing it failed
  • fix the XML file
  • systemctl restart site - fails with script error
  • systemctl start site - fails with script error
  • remove site.state file
  • systemctl start site - success!
